The expert ruled out a significant increase in banana prices due to the adopted GOST

GOST for fresh bananas, adopted by Rosstandart, will not lead to a significant increase in product prices. Ilya Rusyaev, a business consultant and founder of the Rusyaev Club business community, told Izvestia about this on February 20.

According to the expert, the new standard does not imply significant changes for the market. He clarified that most of the parameters have been moved from the previous standard, and the main purpose of the update is to unify requirements at the interstate level. In addition, the specialist noted that the innovations will have virtually no effect on product characteristics.

Rusyaev said that a significant increase in prices should not be expected, since logistics processes are already built according to similar rules. At the same time, a point increase is possible if large chains focus on the purchase of extra and first class bananas. Then some of the supplies will go into the second category, and the premium caliber may become more expensive.

"For large and medium-sized importers with built-in quality control and their own <...>..> cameras are a new GOST rather plus: there is a common language with suppliers and networks. For small players, the risk is that networks may start to massively include a reference to GOST in contracts, and then it will be necessary to document control and consistently maintain party parameters. The interstate format of the standard can also simplify the work of those who supply bananas to several countries that follow common standards," he concluded.

Economists have expressed doubts about the realism of these plans.

Earlier in the day, it became known about the adoption by Rosstandart of GOST for imported bananas. It was clarified that now fresh bananas will have to be checked for compliance with the requirements for appearance, taste and smell. In addition, the length of bananas, according to the new requirements, should be approximately 14 cm.
