Teenagers in Transbaikalia received up to seven years for setting fire to forests on instructions from Ukraine

In Transbaikalia, two teenagers were sentenced by a court for setting fire to a forest near the Chita region on the instructions of Ukraine. This was reported on February 20 in the press service of the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Trans-Baikal Territory.

The defendants were found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("A terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior agreement"). A 16-year-old minor was also found guilty of facilitating terrorist activities (Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

"In June 2025, one of the teenagers, using a messenger, entered into correspondence with an unidentified person, presumably located on the territory of Ukraine, who persuaded a minor to set fire to a forest area for a promised monetary reward in the amount of $ 1,200 to $2,000," the UK wrote in the Telegram channel.

Then, in the area of the village of Atamanovka, Chita district, teenagers set fire to dry grass and needles. They filmed the fire on their phone for a report to the Ukrainian customer. The court sentenced one of the teenagers to six and a half years in prison, while the second defendant was sentenced to seven years and five days in a penal colony. At the same time, they will serve their sentences in an educational colony.

By and large: teenagers want to be tried for crimes as adults

In case of repeated crimes, they are offered to be carried out through criminal law emancipation.

On February 18, the Second Eastern District Military Court of Novosibirsk sentenced two teenagers to seven and seven and a half years in a penal colony for setting fire to a Mi-8 military helicopter at an airbase in Omsk in 2024. The incident occurred in September 2024. The defendants, who were 16 years old at the time of the crime, made an incendiary mixture and set fire to the aircraft at night.
