The position of the Japanese government on the desire to resolve the "territorial problem" and conclude a peace treaty with Russia, despite the difficult state of bilateral relations, remains unchanged. This was announced on February 20 by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

"Although Japanese-Russian relations are in a difficult state, the position of the Japanese government remains unchanged: to resolve the territorial problem and conclude a peace treaty," she said in her keynote speech to Parliament on the occasion of her inauguration, a recording of her speech was posted on the YouTube channel of the office of the Prime Minister of Japan.

At the same time, Takaichi once again criticized Russia's actions in Ukraine, noting the need to end the conflict as soon as possible.
