- The Pushkin Institute of Fine Arts reported on the norms of consumption of the word "eat"
The word "eat" is better used for a polite invitation to eat. Russians Russian Literature and Intercultural Communication Department Head of the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language (IRA) Arina Zhukova announced this on February 20.
"All dictionaries pay attention to the fact that this word cannot be freely used in any context. <...> The verb "to eat" is most often used in formulas of a polite or affectionate invitation to food," Zhukova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
She added that today the verb is increasingly being misused. In this regard, there is a possibility of expanding the limits of its consumption within the framework of colloquial speech. In this case, the stylistic characteristic of the word will change.
