The defense of killer Konstantin Piskarev, nicknamed Kostya Bolshoy, accused of murders committed under particularly aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, as well as illegal trafficking of weapons and explosives as part of an organized group, asked the jury to acquit him. This was reported on February 19 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Piskarev's lawyer called the accusation untenable. According to her, not a single indisputable proof of the existence of the organized crime group, which was headed by the defendant, was presented in court.

According to the defender, the burial sites of the alleged victims have not been identified, and such mandatory signs of the group as financial community and unity of purpose have not been confirmed. In addition, the lawyer stated that the prosecution's version is based on the testimony of people who made a deal with the investigation, and their words are contradictory and full of speculation.

In 2022, Piskarev and eight of his accomplices refused to fully admit their guilt in banditry, murder, kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking. However, according to investigators, Piskarev has committed 21 murders since the mid-1990s. However, the bodies of some victims have not yet been found.

According to investigators, the Kosti Bolshoy organized crime group has been keeping several Russian regions at bay for almost 20 years. Piskarev is also charged with the shooting of Sergiev Posad Mayor Yevgeny Dushko in 2011, as well as the massacre of former Deputy head of the Ministry of Justice Vladimir Postyshev in 2003 and director of the Scientific Center for Legal Information at the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation Marat Gazizov in 2004.
