Peskov called Callas evidence of a bad century of European diplomacy
On February 19, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with the Vesti Telegram channel, commented on the current state of the European diplomacy and criticized its head, Kaya Kallas.
"I think that the powers of Ms. Kai Kallas are not the age of golden diplomacy for the European continent," he told journalist Pavel Zarubin in an interview published on the Vesti Telegram channel.
In his opinion, Callas' work as head of the European Union's foreign policy service confirms that the agency is experiencing a deep decline.
Peskov drew attention to the "list of demands" put forward by Callas to Moscow, which includes reducing the size of the Russian Armed Forces and paying reparations.
Earlier that day, Callas sent a document to the European Union (EU) countries listing Russia's requirements for Ukraine. It was noted that the requirements included a numerical reduction of Russian troops and their withdrawal from some territories, similar to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on February 12 that Callas' intention to prepare a set of demands for Russia on Ukraine demonstrates the EU's desire to prevent the conflict from ending by any means. According to her, Europe should understand that eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict is not a concession to Russia, but a contribution to long—term stability.
