- The expert allowed reformatting in pedagogical universities against the background of the introduction of specialized Unified State Exams
In Russian pedagogical universities, the format of training future teachers may change against the background of the transition to specialized exams and the abandonment of social studies as a compulsory subject for admission. On February 19, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, founder of the Valeria Alekseeva Chinese Language School, Valeria Alekseeva, told Izvestia.
According to the expert, the abolition of social studies as a universal "entrance ticket" looks like a logical step in the context of phasing out the Bologna system and moving to a new model of higher education. Alekseeva explained that we are talking about a structure in which a student first receives fundamental subject training — for example, he studies physics or mathematics for four years — and then learns a pedagogical specialization.
As the expert noted, this logic assumes that graduates of strong specialized programs will come to schools. At the same time, according to Alekseeva, concerns about the loss of the humanitarian component seem exaggerated.
"The emphasis is not on its reduction, but on the synthesis of fundamentals and practice (qualification "Chemistry. Chemistry teacher"). The humanitarian block is likely to be reformatted for strong subject specialists, rather than reduced," she said.
In addition, the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences emphasized that now the bachelor's and master's degree programs will be reformatted.
"There will be no need to read an introductory pedagogy course "for everyone" from the first year. Instead, there will be intensive pedagogical modules for those who have already mastered the fundamental subject base at a high level (as at MIPT or Bauman Moscow State Technical University) and decided to go to school," the expert concluded.
The head of the department, Sergei Kravtsov, said on the same day that applicants to pedagogical universities would take the profile unified State exam (USE) instead of social studies. He noted that the changes will take effect from the admission campaign of the 2027/2028 academic year. The Minister stressed that in this way future students will be able to get to know the subject that they plan to teach in the future.
