The Federal Security Service (FSB) is currently not conducting any negotiations with Telegram founder Pavel Durov. This was announced on February 19 by the head of the department, Alexander Bortnikov, to journalist Alexander Yunashev.
"My department is not conducting any negotiations with Durov right now. They used to, but it didn't lead to anything good," Bortnikov is quoted as saying on the journalist's Telegram channel.
The head of the FSB noted that "we need to work, not fight for freedom of speech." According to him, no one violates this right, it only ensures the protection of the interests of citizens, complements "Газета.Ru ".
Andrey Svintsov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications from the Liberal Democratic Party, announced on February 17 that Telegram was cooperating with Roskomnadzor, and there was no talk of its complete blocking in Russia. He noted that within the framework of the law, Roskomnadzor is given the opportunity to apply a certain set of sanctions every 2-3 months for companies that do not comply with Russian legislation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 11 that the legislative measures introduced in Russia regarding Telegram were binding. He added that the Kremlin is aware of contacts with Telegram representatives.
