There have been 199 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 199 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 14 people were killed and 243 injured. 10 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 19 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
16 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 21 more road users, including two children, needed medical help. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 75 accidents involving pedestrians, 47 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 28 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 74 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 15 child pedestrians, 10 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of drivers or their own negligence. 25 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 25 young road users, including eight passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of settlements and cities, especially when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings. When stopping in front of an adjustable pedestrian crosswalk, you should not rush to start moving even when the traffic light is clear. First, you need to make sure that the crossing is completely free of foot traffic. The behavior of children and elderly pedestrians on the road is often unpredictable, so at any moment it is important to respond adequately to a sudden change in the traffic situation, the department noted.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded parents of underage road users of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them and, if possible, personally accompany them to school, as well as to educational or sports activities. It is imperative to use retroreflective elements on their clothes to improve visibility to drivers on the road in the morning and evening.
The department recommended holding an explanatory conversation with children about the rules of safe passage through the roadway, emphasizing the need to exclude telephone conversations, listening to music in headphones, chatting on the go in Internet chats and other distracting factors for pedestrians.
"Remember that even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has developed a draft government decree, which proposes to conduct preliminary testing of the driver for drug intoxication by saliva. As noted on February 16, according to its results, the issue of the driver's removal from control and the further procedure for his examination for intoxication will be decided.
