Russia sees an escalation around Iran and hopes for a diplomatic solution to the problem. This was announced on February 19 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"We are now seeing an unprecedented escalation of tension in the region. We expect that political and diplomatic means and negotiations will continue to prevail in the search for a settlement," he said during a briefing.
