Kirov meat processing plant was recognized as a landmark of St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, the Kirov meat processing plant on Moskovskoye Highway was officially recognized as a landmark. The building was built in the constructivist style and has not only historical, but also architectural value.

Due to the landmark status, the emergency structures of the building will be replaced, and later they will be restored. After the reconstruction, the meat processing plant can be adapted to meet social and community needs.

Construction began in November 1931 and was completed at the end of 1935. The project was created according to the type of Chicago slaughterhouses, notes 78.ru . The building is an example of innovative solutions of that time.

The meat processing plant was built in conditions of shortage of materials and labor. The project was implemented thanks to the support of Sergey Kirov and Anastas Mikoyan. Architect Noah Trotsky, who participated in the project as a consultant, played a key role in the creation of the unique production complex.

The technical advantages of the facility were also appreciated internationally. So, in 1937, the meat processing plant received a gold medal and a diploma at the exhibition of art and technology in Paris.

During the Great Patriotic War, the 42-meter tower of the meat processing plant turned into an artillery fire correction point, ending up on the line of defense of Leningrad.

Earlier it was reported that by June 2027, the improvement of the buildings of the Apraksiny Dvor in St. Petersburg will be completed. The facades will be restored taking into account the historical architectural appearance of the buildings. Buildings No. 37 and No. 38 on Sadovaya Street, as well as houses 28-30, will be restored by a private company. Construction equipment and materials will be located on Yablochnaya Square. It is also planned to recreate the spaces of the passage, the so-called passage between the buildings, which is blocked by a glass roof-lantern. Metal canopies will appear above the cast-iron columns along the facades of the complex.
