19 flights were canceled and 14 were delayed at Moscow airports due to snowfall.
Heavy snowfall in the Moscow region has led to cancellations and delays of flights at the capital's airports. This was announced on February 19 by the Russian Ministry of Transport.
"Since the beginning of the day, 320 flights have been serviced by the air harbors: 160 for departure, 160 for arrival. Six flights "left" for alternate airfields. 19 flights were cancelled for arrival and departure, including six flights of foreign airlines. 14 flights were delayed for more than two hours," the report says.
The ministry explained that the schedule adjustments are related not only to snowfall, but also to strong winds. The Ministry of Transport reminded that in case of flight delays, airlines are required to provide passengers with drinks, meals and, if necessary, hotel accommodation in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
The work of air transport in the Moscow region remains under the special control of the Ministry of Transport and the Federal Air Transport Agency, Rostransnadzor inspectors are on duty at airports around the clock.
Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia on the same day that heavy snowfall and blizzards were expected in the Moscow region on February 19, and the height of the snow cover could increase by about 10 cm per day.
