Sobyanin appreciated the growing possibilities of transplantation in Moscow

In Moscow, the volume of transplant operations has more than doubled over the past five years — 859 such manipulations were performed last year, and 428 in 2020. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his channel in the MAX.

"Now Muscovites receive life-saving treatment much faster. So, liver transplantation is expected for about 5 months, and kidneys — no more than a year. In other countries, this process can take from 3 to 5 years," the mayor wrote.

Sobyanin called such a pace of development of the industry the result of "a huge comprehensive work on the development of urban medicine."

In particular, according to the mayor, data on potential donors are received in a timely manner due to the digitalization of the capital's healthcare system. Also, the leading transplant centers in Moscow began to actively apply the latest developments and innovations.

For example, for the first time in Russia, the Botkin Moscow Medical Center "introduced a unique technique of normothermal machine ex vivo perfusion of donor kidneys," the mayor noted. Thanks to this approach, doctors can now use even those organs that were previously considered unsuitable for transplantation.

In turn, the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine has developed a new technique for pancreatic transplantation. Its use allows for more frequent pancreatic and kidney transplants in the same operation.

Earlier in February, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sobyanin called Moscow a recognized national leader in healthcare digitalization. In the capital, all city hospitals, polyclinics and ambulances operate in a single digital circuit. In addition, artificial intelligence-based diagnostic services created in Moscow are used in 74 regions of the country, the mayor noted.
