Russians were told about the risks of using humidifiers
Improper use of humidifiers can lead to the spread of bacteria and the development of respiratory diseases. This was announced on February 19 by Gazeta.Ru" Mikhail Lebedev, a leading expert at the Center for Molecular Diagnostics at Rospotrebnadzor.
According to the expert, if the operating rules are violated, the device can become a source of harmful microorganisms.
"The stagnant water in the tank at room temperature is an ideal breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms, especially if the humidifier is turned on occasionally. And then these microorganisms easily scatter around the room along with the water aerosol, getting into the human lungs," Lebedev explained.
He noted that this can cause coughing, allergies and deterioration of the respiratory system. In addition, the addition of aromatic oils and the use of ordinary tap water are dangerous.
"The water mist from the ultrasonic device may contain all the impurities that ended up in the water poured into it (including those that are not the most useful). A manifestation of mineral contamination is the appearance of white plaque on furniture," the expert added.
The doctor emphasized that for safe use, it is necessary to regularly change the water, clean the filters and use only liquids approved by the manufacturer. The optimal humidity level in the room, according to him, should be 30-45% in winter and 30-60% in summer.
Researchers at the University of Maryland reported on February 14 that effective ventilation and air circulation can reduce the risk of flu transmission indoors. In the experiment, healthy participants were near infected people, but no infection occurred. Experts attributed this to high air circulation and the spread of viral particles. According to them, indoor air conditions play an important role in infection prevention.
