Europe, in the context of Ukraine, has exposed its Nazi essence, which, as Russia previously thought, was eliminated by the defeat of Adolf Hitler. This was announced on February 18 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the EU's position on the Ukrainian settlement.

"Europe has exposed its Nazi identity, which we thought was eliminated by Hitler's defeat in World War II. But she proved to be very tenacious. I don't see what role Europe can play," he said.

According to him, European countries demand the start of negotiations and insist on their own participation in them, while openly declaring that Kiev allegedly defends "European values." Lavrov noted that, in his opinion, no one in the European space is making efforts to repeal Ukrainian laws restricting the use of the Russian language and the activities of the canonical Orthodox Church. The Minister stressed that, in his assessment, this practice has no analogues in other regions of the world.

Lavrov also said that Europe had already had the opportunity to play a constructive role in resolving the conflict. He recalled the agreements of February 2014, the Minsk Agreements of 2015, as well as the negotiations in Belarus and Istanbul in 2022. According to him, in April 2022, the parties initialed the settlement principles, but the document was not signed.

Lavrov also noted that then discussed security guarantees included the participation of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia and China, also Germany and Turkey, and called for the adoption of decisions on the basis of consensus. According to him, the current proposals of European countries on security guarantees for Ukraine are unilateral and formulated without taking into account Moscow's position.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said on February 16 that Western states had succeeded in making Ukraine European in terms of Nazism. In addition, she noted that Western countries, not the Russian side, carried out a coup and changed the regime in Kiev.

On February 9, Lavrov said that the "Nazi foundations" in Ukraine must be eliminated, as this is a condition for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation. The Russian Foreign Minister added that Russia would not allow the deployment of any types of weapons on the territory of Ukraine, which, according to Moscow, could threaten the interests of Russian security.
