In St. Petersburg, 177 crimes related to extremism and terrorism were recorded last year, which is 44% higher than a year earlier. This was announced on February 18 by Roman Plugin, head of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city and the Leningrad Region.

He noted that law enforcement officers had identified those involved in six terrorist attacks and four sabotage attacks on critical infrastructure facilities in the city.

"The work on solving crimes of the past years has not stopped. So, 800 such crimes have been solved, of which 398 are grave and especially grave," Plugin added, as quoted by the 78 TV channel.

Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said on February 4 that the recruitment of Russian children and teenagers by the Ukrainian and British special services in order to involve them in terrorist activities in the country is alarming. She stressed the need for extensive information work and awareness-raising activities, including through the media and educational institutions.
