The court denied parole to the ex-Minister of Culture of the Crimea Novoselskaya
The Lyublinsky district court of Moscow rejected the ex-Minister of Culture of Crimea Vera (Arina) Novoselskaya, who is serving a sentence for receiving a particularly large bribe, is on parole. This was reported on February 18 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
"My description from the pre-trial detention center states that I do not admit guilt. After appealing to the Moscow City Court, I did not appeal the verdict. I accepted everything and realized everything, I want to return to my family," the ex-official said.
In turn, the state prosecution asked the court to deny the petition — the prosecutor clarified that Novoselskaya had not paid the fine.
According to investigators, in 2018, the ex-official received money for the patronage of a construction company building a theater arts center in Simferopol. The old theater building was declared an emergency and demolished.
Novoselskaya stated that over 1 billion rubles would be allocated for the construction of the new theater, but it was never put into operation.
Novoselskaya was sentenced to 10 years in a general regime penal colony on July 18, 2023. She was also fined five times the amount of the bribe, which amounted to more than 129 million rubles. Novoselskaya has held the post of Minister of Culture of Crimea since February 2014. The person involved was detained in November 2021 in Crimea and taken to Moscow.
In April 2024, Novoselskaya applied to serve in the special military operation area. She made that decision three months ago. Novoselskaya noted that she hopes for an affirmative answer to her application as soon as possible.
