Russia calls on the United States to refrain from plans to impose a naval blockade of Cuba, as such steps are fraught with serious destabilization of the situation in the region. This was announced on February 18 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We urge the United States to show common sense, a responsible approach, and refrain from plans for a naval blockade of Liberty Island," he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister added that Russia will consistently continue to support Cuba in protecting its sovereignty and security.

"And, of course, we categorically reject far—fetched accusations against Russia, Cuba, and our cooperation as allegedly posing a threat to the interests of the United States," he added.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that Russia values relations with Cuba and intends to continue to assist it with fuel, but the country's support is not related to the negotiation track on Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that a military operation against Cuba would not be difficult, but it was not necessary. According to him, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is participating in the negotiations on behalf of the United States.
