VTB plans to complete the process of import substitution of the bank's IT systems by the end of 2027. At the same time, the main work will be completed this year, said Vadim Kulik, Deputy President and Chairman of the VTB Management Board, at the Ural Bank of Russia Forum on Cybersecurity in Finance.

VTB was the first to fully import significant critical information infrastructure facilities. 206 out of 800 systems fall into this category. For example, this category includes all operations for making payments in rubles. The remaining systems are subject to the requirements of the Digital Transformation Strategy. Their import substitution rate was 98%. At the same time, the process has already affected all transactions carried out in mobile banking and branches. The systems used for processing applications, for example, for opening loans or deposits, have also been replaced.

"It remains for us to replace the accounting mechanics, that is, the processes of calculating or writing off interest, creating reserves, etc., as well as so-called exotic operations, for example, accounting for coins. We have already completely redesigned all the front-end solutions and all business processes," Kulik emphasized.

According to VTB calculations, savings from the use of import-substituted developments by 2030 should amount to about 180 billion rubles. This amount consists of optimizing the costs of solutions based on open technologies and included in the Unified Register of Russian Software. VTB is also switching to using domestic server equipment. The vast majority of new solutions, including the functionality of the automated banking system (ABS), were developed within the framework of the omnichannel technological financial platform created by the bank together with its key technology partner, T1 Holding. The bank also reduced the use of foreign Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database management information systems (DBMS), switching to domestic databases based on PostgreSQL.
