The United States will return to nuclear testing on an "equal basis" with Russia and China, but will not conduct explosions in a megaton-class atmosphere. This was announced on February 17 by Christopher Yeo, Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control and Nonproliferation.
"As the president [of the United States Donald Trump] stated, the United States will return to conducting tests on an equal basis," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying at a seminar at the Hudson Institute in Washington.
According to the American side, this will avoid escalation and form the foundations for a more sustainable security architecture.
