Hungary has not received a request from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to abandon Russian raw materials, as the United States takes into account Budapest's interests. This was announced on February 17 by the country's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"The Americans are well aware of the importance of geography in the issue of energy supply, therefore, as before, they did not put forward any requests or suggestions on how we should solve the problem of Hungary's energy supply. In fact, they recognized that Hungary has national interests, such as ensuring cheap energy supply, and that it is quite natural for the country to act based on its national interests," Szijjarto said on the Ultrahang You Tube channel.

Szijjarto also noted that officials from the European Union (EU) have "boundless imagination" and are prone to "military fanaticism" because they are interested in continuing the conflict in Ukraine.

Szijjarto announced on February 2 that Hungary had filed a lawsuit in the European Court of Justice against the European Union (EU) ban on the import of Russian energy resources. He explained that the lawsuit demands the repeal of the Brussels REPowerEU decree prohibiting EU countries from buying Russian oil and gas. Szijjarto also called this decision legally unjustified.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed on January 28 that the EU's plans to abandon Russian gas are Europe's problem. He added that European countries are abandoning the most competitive Russian piped or liquefied natural gas and condemning themselves to dependence on a small number of US gas sources at very high prices.
