The media reported on Germany's interest in importing LNG from Argentina
The German authorities are considering the possibility of importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Argentina with state guarantees. This was reported on February 17 by the German magazine Der Spiegel.
"Supplies can be arranged within the framework of a project by the state—owned company Sefe and the Argentine Southern Energy," the publication says.
The agreement between the companies was announced back in December 2025. It is estimated that the volume of imports will amount to two million tons annually, which can provide almost a third of the total LNG supply to Germany.
A final decision on the provision of state guarantees has not yet been made.
Bundestag deputy and Alternative for Germany energy policy representative Steffen Cotre said on February 11 that the German government was receiving parliamentary appeals demanding the resumption of Russian gas supplies amid increasing dependence on the United States. It was clarified that a sharp increase in LNG imports from the United States entails new risks of unilateral dependence on energy supplies.
