The second round of indirect talks between representatives of Iran and the United States in Geneva was held in a constructive manner, and the parties reached an understanding on a number of common issues. This was announced on February 17 by the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araqchi.

"Significant progress has been made compared to the previous round <...> We have a clearer idea of what needs to be done," the IRNA news agency quoted the minister as saying.

He noted that the atmosphere during the talks was constructive, and the parties exchanged ideas about Iran's nuclear dossier. According to Araqchi, the next negotiations will take into account these developments, with which the parties "will proceed to discuss the essence of a potential agreement."

The New York Times reported on February 3 that Iran is ready to consider the possibility of a deal with the United States, which could include the suspension or complete cessation of the republic's nuclear program. At the same time, Tehran expressed its preference for the proposal to create a regional consortium for the production of nuclear energy, which was put forward by the United States last year.
