Ski mountaineer Nikita Filippov took second place at the 2026 Olympics
Russian athlete Nikita Filippov took second place in the ski mountaineering competition at the Olympic Games. He covered the distance in 2 minutes 35.5 seconds. Filippov performed in a neutral status, without national symbols.
The winner of the competition was the Spaniard Oriol Cardona Kohl (2.34,03), the third place was awarded to the Frenchman Thibaut Anselme (2.36,34). Ski mountaineering entered the Olympic program on February 19, presenting it as a separate discipline for the first time.
In this discipline, six athletes start the race at the same time. On the first section of the route, they climb the mountain, then run through the next section of the slope. And at the top, the athletes change the ski cover and begin a downhill descent to the finish line. The ski climbers covered a distance of 610 meters with an altitude of 70 meters.
Nikita Filippov is a 23-time champion of Russia. After a three-year hiatus from international competitions, he returned to the World Cup in 2025, where he finished fourth and fifth in the sprint at various stages and won a ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games. In December, he was given a neutral status and an official invitation from the International Olympic Committee was sent to participate in the Games.
Earlier that day, Filippov reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games. In the qualifying race, the 23-year-old athlete finished second.
