VTB saw the risks of hackers strengthening due to the development of AI

The development of autonomous IT systems - AI agents based on artificial intelligence technologies — in the coming years will lead to the emergence of "great combinators" among hackers who will create large-scale strategies for hacker attacks on various structures. But companies will also enhance their security through AI agents. This was stated in the VTB analytical review "Security in the Bank of the Future" by Vadim Kulik, Deputy President and Chairman of the VTB Management Board.

One of the main IT trends for the next few years will be the active development of AI agents, IT systems capable of independently initiating solutions and achieving set goals, Kulik noted. The development of large language models will ensure the creation of multi-agent systems in which a large number of AI agents will interact with each other to complete their tasks.

"The improvement of multi-agent systems will contribute to a multiple increase in the speed of vulnerability detection by hackers. The release of resources will lead to the emergence of "great combinators" among hackers in the coming years who will create attack strategies, plan key scenarios, etc., while AI agents will take over the entire routine. On the side of the defending organizations, the situation will develop similarly: there will be specialists building the perimeter of protection at a strategic level, and all mechanical work, including writing code, will be automated with the help of AI agents," notes Vadim Kulik.

The development of AI agents will also lead to large-scale changes in user scenarios, Kulik believes. "There will be more and more AI agents, both on the business side and on the side of the customers and users themselves. In this case, it is no longer the clients who will interact directly with the bank's application, but first the client will contact his agent, and then the user agent will contact the business agent. This, in turn, will require the adaptation of the IT systems of all services," the expert noted.
