The author of Madonna's hits Steinberg died in Los Angeles at the age of 76.

Grammy Award winner and world hits author Billy Steinberg has died at the age of 76. This was reported by Variety on February 16, citing his lawyer.

Steinberg, considered one of the most successful composers of the 80s and 90s, died in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer.

Steinberg achieved worldwide success in 1984 with Madonna's song Like a Virgin, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the centerpiece track of the singer's second album.

Steinberg's long list of hits also includes Whitney Houston's So Emotional, Celine Dion's Falling Into You, and Cyndi Lauper's True Colors. He has collaborated with numerous stars like Tina Turner, Demi Lovato, Cyndi Lauper, as well as bands including the Russian t.A.T.u.

In 2011, Steinberg was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, an American organization that, in addition to supporting English-language popular music, honors famous songwriters.
