Over the past day, 222 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 266 injured. 16 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 17 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

15 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 18 road users, including one child, required medical attention. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 72 accidents involving pedestrians, 35 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 37 outside their area of operation, six pedestrians were killed, and 42 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Nine child pedestrians were among the injured, six of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of drivers or their own negligence.

Over the past day, 22 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 25 young road users, including 16 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions. Thus, in the Murmansk region, due to snow, blizzard, strong gusty winds and the resulting visibility restrictions, traffic was temporarily stopped on two highways of regional significance: Kola - Serebryanskie HPPS from 32 km to 81 km and the Entrance to the village of Teriberka from 0 km to 39 km.

In the Ulyanovsk region, since yesterday, for the same reasons, traffic has been restricted for trucks and buses of the category on four federal highways (M-5 Ural from 199 km to 295 km, R-241 Kazan — Buinsk — Ulyanovsk from 136 km to 326 km, R-178 Saransk — Surskoye — Ulyanovsk" from 97 km to 220 km, A-151 "Tsivilsk — Ulyanovsk" 136 km to 199 km), as well as on all public roads of regional and inter-municipal importance.

A similar situation with temporary traffic restrictions for buses and trucks due to adverse weather conditions continued all day and most of the night yesterday on several sections of federal and regional highways in the Samara, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk regions, as well as in the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. The restrictions have now been lifted, with the exception of the Orenburg and Samara regions.

The State Traffic Inspectorate draws the attention of drivers to the fact that in winter, they should be extremely careful when driving a car: refrain from sudden thoughtless maneuvers and realignments, observe the interval and distance between vehicles, and choose the speed limit taking into account weather conditions.

"When planning trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that drivers and passengers always monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures or restrictions. In case of a negative forecast, it is recommended to refrain from traveling long distances until weather conditions and traffic conditions improve, and in urban conditions, use public transport services," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The day before it was reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has developed a draft government decree, which proposes to conduct preliminary testing of the driver for intoxication by saliva. Based on its results, the issue of the driver's removal from control and the further procedure for his examination for intoxication will be resolved.
