- The American received a sentence for attempting to export spare parts for AK from the Russian Federation
A court in Moscow upheld the sentence of American Robert Mao, who received four years in a penal colony for attempting to export spare parts for a Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK) and a Saiga carbine through Turkey to the United States. This was reported on February 17 on the official portal of the courts of general jurisdiction of the city of Moscow.
"The verdict of the Solntsevsky District Court of Moscow dated March 19, 2025 against Mao Robert should remain unchanged," the case materials available to Izvestia say.
It is noted that the appeal of Mao and his lawyer, who claimed that he had no intention of smuggling and assisted the investigation, was rejected. The Judicial Board found the punishment to be fair and proportionate to the crime committed.
On September 22, the Center for Public Relations (SOC) of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation reported that 27 clandestine weapons workshops had been identified in the regions of Russia and 200 "barrels", over 1.5 thousand grenades and 250 kg of explosives had been seized. Operations took place in 32 regions of Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol, Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as in various Russian regions and republics.
