- Economist Ivanova-Shvets spoke about the increase in the social pension from April 1
The average social pension in Russia will increase by more than a thousand rubles after indexation from April 1, 2026. This was announced on February 17 by Lyudmila Ivanova-Shvets, Associate Professor of the Basic Department of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry "Human Resource Management" at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
According to her, social pensions will be indexed by 6.8% for all recipients of this payment.
"The average size of the social pension will increase by 1,054.96 rubles per month," the TASS expert explained.
Ivanova-Shvets recalled that social pensions are awarded to citizens who have not gained the necessary length of service or pension points for an insurance pension, as well as to disabled people and children who have lost their breadwinners.
"The state annually indexes social pensions at or slightly above the official inflation rate in the country. Indexing is carried out, as a rule, once a year from April 1," she added.
Tatiana Podolskaya, an expert at the Presidential Academy, reported on February 7 that the average social pension after indexation on April 1, 2026, would exceed 16.5 thousand rubles. According to her estimates, with an indexation of 6.8%, the average payout will increase from 15,514.1 rubles to 16,569.06 rubles. At the same time, the final amount of the pension will depend on its type, as well as regional surcharges and coefficients.
