US President Donald Trump has declared a major environmental disaster in the metropolitan area after thousands of tons of wastewater entered the Potomac River. He announced this on February 16 in his Truth Social network.
"A massive environmental disaster is taking place in the Potomac River," Trump wrote.
The American leader blamed the incident on the governor of Maryland.
"Obviously, the local authorities are not able to adequately deal with this disaster," the president added.
Trump stressed that he would not allow "the river in the heart of Washington to turn into a disaster zone" due to the incompetence of the local leadership.
