On February 17, Marina Makarova, a leading meteorologist at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, commented on the news about the lowest recorded air temperature in Antarctica -55.8 degrees.

"They have a record minimum temperature in winter. When we have summer, they have winter. And then here are the minimum temperature records. We are talking about the fact that this is the coldest point on the planet, but it is summer there now. Summer in Antarctica is colder than winter in Yakutia," said Makarova in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the forecaster, there is nothing special about what has been recorded.
