Opera singer Lyudmila Yurchenko has died in Ukraine.
People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR Lyudmila Yurchenko died at the age of 84. Her death was announced on February 16 by the National Opera of Ukraine. Taras Shevchenko.
"The National Opera of Ukraine is deeply saddened: at the age of 83, an outstanding opera singer, teacher, People's Artist of Ukraine, winner of the National Prize of Ukraine, passed away into eternity. Taras Shevchenko Lyudmila Vladimirovna Yurchenko," the theater said in a Facebook post (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
Lyudmila Yurchenko graduated from the Kiev Conservatory and performed on the stage of the National Opera of Ukraine from 1969 to 2011. In addition to her active stage work, she was engaged in teaching, having educated several generations of vocalists.
The theater recalled that over the years of her creative activity, the singer has created a number of vivid stage images. Among her most famous roles are Nastya in the opera Taras Bulba, Gemma in Yaroslav the Wise, Carmen in the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet, as well as roles in productions of Aida, Nabucco and Troubadour.
