Chinese New Year festival opened in Moscow
The Chinese New Year in Moscow festival has opened in the capital, which will last until March 1 and will cover more than 60 venues in the city, including Manezhnaya and Bolotnaya Squares, the Moskino Film Park, the Moscow Zoo and the Muzeon Art Park. The program includes hundreds of events: culinary and creative workshops, concerts, exhibitions and theatrical performances. This was announced by Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina.
"The festival is held as part of the Winter in Moscow project. Residents and guests of the capital are expected at more than 60 venues. Representatives from different cities of China have prepared musical and choreographic performances, workshops and exhibitions. In parallel, from February 19 to 22, a Carnival celebration is being organized in Beijing. Everyone will get acquainted with our traditions and taste the national treats," said Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.
Chunjie Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind. In 2026, it will be celebrated on February 17, and the symbol will be a red fiery horse.
"The leaders of our countries have repeatedly stressed that today relations between Russia and China are at the highest level in their entire history. And it's true. But every year we conquer new, even higher peaks. The coming year will be marked by the horse, which symbolizes energy, movement, impetuosity, strength, and running. There is no doubt that this year Russian-Chinese relations will develop even faster, more dynamically and productively," said Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department and Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The opening of the festival took place on Manezhnaya Square. The audience saw acrobatic and musical performances by artists from China.
"This evening is special: we are celebrating Chinese New Year in Moscow for the third time, and a little later the capital will hold Carnival in Beijing. For us, Chinese and Russians, traditional holidays are not just dates on the calendar. They are based on what we truly value: respect for our roots, love for family and Homeland. And also the willingness to hear and accept other cultures, respect them and enjoy their beauty," said Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Russian Federation.
