Honored coach of Russia in figure skating Gennady Akkerman died at the age of 72. The loss was announced on February 16 by the press service of the Russian Figure Skating Federation FFKKR.
Gennady Akkerman made a significant contribution to the development of the Russian figure skating school. Over the years of his coaching career, he has worked with outstanding athletes, including Olympic medalists Alexander Zhulin and Ilya Averbukh. In recent years, the specialist has been working in St. Petersburg.
The cause of death is currently unknown. The farewell ceremony for Ackerman will take place on February 19 in St. Petersburg. The funeral service will be held in the Holy Trinity Izmailovsky Cathedral.
