Lukashenko pointed to the inability of the UN to solve global problems
On February 16, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the United Nations a "worthless organization," saying that it does not and will not solve important global issues. At the same time, he admitted that there is currently no alternative to the UN.
Lukashenko stressed that although the UN does not fulfill its main role, it remains the only organization in which representatives of all world states gather.
"The United Nations is a worthless organization, it does not solve and will not solve any issues. Well, there is no other one," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
On February 11, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced Russia's work aimed at preventing the UN from mutating into a "cudgel" in the hands of one group of countries. She recalled that the UN was conceived as a community of equal states that would act to achieve a common result. At the same time, Zakharova noted that currently some groups of countries are trying to use the organization as a tool to achieve "selfish goals," and Moscow is working to prevent this.
