Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on February 16 that the country remains ready to provide a platform for a possible peace summit between Russia and the United States to resolve the situation in Ukraine.

According to the Prime Minister, Budapest supports inviting the leaders to a dialogue if the proposal is officially put forward. The Hungarian prime minister discussed this issue with NATO Secretary General Marco Rubio during their recent meeting, stressing that the invitation to the US president remains relevant.

"Of course, Hungary is still ready to host a peace summit here in Budapest, if one takes place, and I confirmed to Foreign Minister Rubio that the invitation to President Trump to come to Hungary is valid," Orban's statement was quoted by The Guardian newspaper.

On February 15, at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the second time that day. During the Ewald von Kleist Award ceremony, Zelensky thanked the leaders of the partner countries for their support of Ukraine and mentioned Orban, saying that the Hungarian prime minister allegedly urges everyone in Europe to be better than himself.

Viktor Orban already stated in December 2025 that Hungary was ready to provide a platform for negotiations on Ukraine. He stated this at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Orban, Hungary was ready to assist in the successful completion of this process.
