Short-track skater Krylova reached the semifinals of the Olympics after falling
Russian short-track skater Alena Krylova reached the semifinals at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan, despite falling. This became known on February 16 after the judges' decision that a violation had been committed against her.
In the second round, Krylova fought for the lead with Chinese Zhang Chutong, trying to bypass her opponent along the internal trajectory. During the fight, the athletes collided, after which the Russian woman fell on the track.
Following the episode, the referee decided to disqualify the Chinese athlete. Krylova was automatically allowed into the next round, as the violation occurred at the moment of the struggle for the position that gave access to the semifinals.
On February 14, Krylova took part in the qualification for the 1000 m short track at the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy. She covered the distance in 1 minute 28.495 seconds and took the third place, eventually entering the top four among the third places.
