There were 359 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.

Over the past weekend, 359 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 55 people were killed and 473 injured. 41 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 16 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 89 accidents involving pedestrians, 14 people were killed, 76 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Nine child pedestrians are among the injured, five of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 61 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 47 outside their area of operation.

25 bus accidents were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 33 more road users, including one child, needed medical attention. 15 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

So, in the Udmurt Republic, on 221 km of the federal highway R-243 Kostroma — Shar — Kirov — Perm — access to Izhevsk, a 65-year-old female passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place in a snowfall, where she collided with a school bus that was traveling from Izhevsk with 15 passengers: 11 schoolchildren aged 10 to 15 years and four accompanying adults. A passenger of a passenger car was killed in an accident, the culprit of the collision ended up in the hospital with injuries, a 12-year-old bus passenger was sent for outpatient treatment after medical care.

In the city of Engels, Saratov region, a 22-year-old driver of a trolleybus carrying about 30 passengers in the cabin collided with a crossover while passing a regulated intersection at a traffic light forbidding him to move. At the same time, the passenger car was moving towards the traffic light. After the collision, both vehicles left the road and crashed into the masts of city lighting. As a result of the accident, one of the trolleybus passengers was injured and, after receiving medical treatment, was sent for outpatient treatment.

35 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 35 young road users, including 27 passengers, were injured. Three children were killed: one child passenger and two pedestrians.

So, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, on 2 km of the Dudinka—Vorontsovo regional highway, a 46-year-old truck driver ran over a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was walking along the right edge of the carriageway in the direction of the passing truck when leaving the adjacent territory onto the main road. A ninth grader died.

In the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, on 769 km of the Tyumen - Tobolsk — Khanty—Mansiysk federal highway R-404, a 54-year-old passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place during snowfall, where he collided with a truck. The driver and two passengers of the car were killed in the car accident, including a 14-year-old teenager who was in the back seat with a seat belt fastened. Another passenger of this car was hospitalized with injuries.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to always be attentive, collected and disciplined when driving vehicles. It is recommended to avoid risky driving, distraction, exceeding the permitted speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking, entering the lane of oncoming traffic even in the permitted places and other dangerous maneuvers.

"We advise you to monitor the weather forecast and refrain from traveling long distances in case of worsening weather conditions. If you are still on the road, remember that in winter you should be extremely careful when driving a car. Do not forget that in conditions of insufficient visibility, it is necessary to move with external lighting devices turned on, be sure to use fog lights, if available, and during precipitation, reduce speed as much as possible and move with the alarm lights on. While driving, choose the speed limit depending on the time of day, the condition of the roadway and weather conditions," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The ministry recalled that the lives and health of other road users, including passengers, depend on driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has prepared a draft order, which defines a list of indicators, criteria and frequency of evaluation of the effectiveness of driving schools in Russia. As clarified on February 4, the list of assessment criteria includes, among other things, the results of exams, the proportion of graduates from the total number in a particular driving school who successfully passed theory and practice on the first attempt, and the proportion of theoretical and practical exams not passed by graduates.
