Retired Rear Admiral Nikolai Kovalenko, accused of embezzling 592 million rubles from the Russian Defense Ministry, was sentenced to four years and six months in a penal colony and released due to illness. This became known on February 16 after a meeting of the Moscow garrison Military Court.

"To find Nikolay Kovalenko guilty and sentence him to 4 years and 6 months in a general regime penal colony, a fine of 500 thousand rubles <...>. To release him from the main punishment of imprisonment due to illness," TASS quoted the judge as saying.
