Scientists have recorded a powerful solar flare
A strong flare was recorded on the left edge of the Sun. This was announced on February 16 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"At about 8:00 Moscow time, a rather strong solar flare was unexpectedly registered. The radiation peak occurred at 07:35 Moscow time. <...> The event poses no danger to the Earth. The flash was accompanied by an outburst of plasma, which goes sideways," the laboratory said in a Telegram channel message.
It is noted that against the background of low solar activity over the weekend, this event "looks quite contrary to the general situation." In addition, the source of the flare is located on the far side of the star, where such activity was not thought to occur.
On February 13, the Institute of Applied Geophysics of the Federal State Budgetary Budgetary Institution "IPG" reported that a strong solar flare lasting 48 minutes had been recorded. It is specified that in the X-ray range, an M1.1 flash was detected in the group of spots 4373 (N08W16).
