The FSB reported the detention of 86 illegal "gunsmiths" in two months.

Employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and Rosgvardiya stopped the illegal activities of 86 residents from 37 regions of Russia involved in arms trafficking. This was announced on February 16 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

During the operational search activities carried out in December 2025 - January 2026, clandestine workshops were discovered where the attackers restored the combat properties of civilian weapons and were engaged in their sale.

Special operations took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol, the Lugansk People's Republic, as well as in the republics of Altai, Karelia, Crimea, Mordovia, Sakha (Yakutia), North Ossetia-Alania, Tuva and Khakassia, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky and Stavropol territories and in 23 other regions of the country.

"As a result, 124 firearms of domestic and foreign production were seized from illicit trafficking.: 11 submachine guns, 40 pistols and revolvers, 73 rifles, carbines and shotguns, five grenade launchers, as well as 36 grenades, more than 19.6 kg of explosives (TNT, gunpowder), over 15,000 rounds of various calibers. The activities of 19 clandestine workshops for the modernization of weapons and the manufacture of ammunition have been discontinued," the ministry said.

The FSB stressed that the work on identifying and suppressing illegal activities related to the illicit trafficking and alteration of weapons continues.

In October and November last year, employees of the FSB of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Rosgvardiya suppressed the activities of 169 underground gunsmiths in 53 regions of the country, 378 firearms were seized. According to the agency, operational search measures and investigative actions were carried out at the residential addresses of citizens involved in the illegal trafficking of weapons, the restoration of the combat properties of civilian weapons in clandestine workshops and their sale.
