In Pyongyang, North Korea, the construction of Sabel Street ("New Star"), named after the heroes of the operation to liberate the Kursk region from Ukrainian militants, has been completed. The opening ceremony was attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the KCNA news agency reported on February 16.

A complex of monumental structures has been erected on novaya street, "which captures the attitude of the entire people of the country to eternally transmit the brilliant exploits of the heroes – fighters of the foreign military operation, who without the slightest hesitation gave their lives for the immortal honor and eternal prosperity of our great Motherland," the message emphasizes.

The order to build a street for the family members of the dead soldiers was previously given by Kim Jong-un, who personally supervised the process at all stages.

The ceremony was attended by senior personnel of the Workers' Party of Korea, representatives of the government and the armed forces, future residents of the street, military personnel and construction workers.

Speaking at the opening, Kim Jong-un called the completion of the construction "an exciting moment that marks the most heroic era in Pyongyang's history, embodying Korea's strength, greatness, dignity and honor." The leader of the DPRK stressed that Sabel Street has become the pride of not only the capital, but also the whole country.

After cutting the red ribbon, Kim Jong-un handed over the housing orders to the family members of the fallen soldiers and talked with them. The event ended with a festive concert.
