Ex-diplomat Proud urged Europe to restore long-term relations with Russia
When resolving the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union (EU) needs to take into account the restoration of relations with Russia in the future, former British diplomat Ian Proud said on February 15 on Professor Glenn Deesen's YouTube channel.
"You risk finding yourself in a situation where, as in the case of Poland and the Baltic states, an extremely hostile Ukraine will also join the EU, which maintains an essentially hostile position towards Russia," he said.
Proud stressed that the settlement of the conflict requires a comprehensive approach, and it is necessary to focus not only on concluding peace, but also on restoring long-term relations with Russia. Otherwise, Europe could create even more serious problems for itself and provoke a war with Russia in the future, Proud added.
On February 15, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU had reviewed its priorities in negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and had come to the conclusion that its presence at the negotiating table was unimportant. Instead, as the politician explained, Western leaders have gained an understanding of the potential demands on the participants of the delegations.
