Russia's place in the world of potato production has become known
In 2024, Russia ranked fifth in the world in potato production, with one in twenty tons produced being Russian. This is evidenced by data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which was reviewed by RIA Novosti on February 16.
According to the data, global potato production in 2024 amounted to 390.4 million tons. China became the leader, where 94.8 million tons were harvested, which corresponds to 24% of the global volume. India is in second place with 57.1 million tons (15%).
This is followed by Ukraine, which produced 21.1 million tons (5.4%), and the USA, with a result of 19.1 million tons (4.9%). Russia rounded out the top five, producing 18.4 million tons of potatoes, which is 4.7% of the global volume. Belarus took the 23rd place with an indicator of 3.1 million tons (0.8%).
Earlier, on January 23, it was reported that the cost of a borscht set decreased by 19% over the year. The average price for vegetables was 205 rubles. Cabbage became the cheapest vegetable — its price fell by 27.6% and amounted to 34.4 rubles per kg. Potatoes also fell by 21.6%. Its cost is now 43.4 rubles.
