The associate professor warned about write-offs for the lack of card transactions
Banks can deduct fees from customers' cards if there are no card transactions. This was announced on February 16 by Elmira Assiaeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Global Financial Markets and Fintech at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
"The situation with fees for inactive accounts is a classic example of information asymmetry between banks and customers. Most people do not read the entire contracts and do not track tariff changes, which is a surprise factor for write—offs," she said in an interview with the Prime agency.
According to the expert, if the condition on the commission for inactivity is explicitly stated in the bank agreement, write-offs are considered legitimate. She noted that in order to avoid additional costs, customers should carefully study the terms of service and, if necessary, close unused accounts or cards.
