The recorded increase in prices for cucumbers is due to a seasonal decline in yields, accompanied by high demand for this vegetable. Ilya Bereznyuk, Managing Partner of Agro and Food Communications, announced this on February 15.

"Seasonality is the main and recurring factor in the cucumber situation every year. From mid-December to February, greenhouse cucumbers have a natural decline in yield, as well as more expensive production. During this period, vegetables from the open ground are already running out and all the necessary volume is accounted for by industrial greenhouse production," he said in an interview with RT.

The specialist clarified that starting from February – March, the cost of such goods, as a rule, reaches a "plateau", and then begins to decrease altogether. This process, as he explained, is due to the fact that with the arrival of spring, cucumbers grown in greenhouses located in the south of Russia begin to arrive on store shelves.

Bereznyuk stressed that despite the observed jump in prices for some vegetables, this year's figures are significantly lower than they were in 2025.

On January 16, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Oksana Lut, clarified that the cost of cucumbers would decrease when the outdoor season approached. According to her, there is currently an increase in the number of vegetables grown in the ground in the country, so representatives of her department are considering the possibility of resuming the issuance of preferential loans for the construction of greenhouses.
