Kallas stated that the EU is not ready to name the date of Ukraine's accession to the union.

The member states of the European Union (EU) are not ready to name a specific date for Ukraine's potential admission to the community. This was announced on Sunday, February 15, by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.

"The member states are not ready to give a specific date [for Ukraine's accession to the EU]. A lot of work needs to be done," she said during her speech on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Kallas added that the association needs to move forward on this issue and demonstrate Ukraine's belonging to Europe. She clarified that this state, just like such "small countries" as Albania and Montenegro, have been in the process of European integration for quite a long time, but it has not been accepted into the community.

Latvian President Edgar Rinkevich, who attended the meeting, agreed with the head of the European Diplomacy on the need for Ukraine for the EU, but also confirmed that the participating countries could not accept a specific date for the admission of a new member. He pointed out that the union had lost its trust due to the fact that he made many promises to those who wanted to join it.

Against the background of obstacles for many candidate countries, Ukraine's chances are also decreasing.

Igor Zhovkva, Deputy head of the office of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, noted on February 6 that the EU needs to outline its position on Ukraine's accession to the union next year. The admission of this country into the community, as he explained, is the basis for future security guarantees for Ukraine and the whole of Europe.

On February 12, representatives of the European Parliament pointed out that there were no reasons for Ukraine to join the EU in the near future. One of them, Reinhold Lopatka, a deputy from the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), called the potential entry of the state into the alliance "unfair" in relation to other countries applying for this step.
