Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on February 14 that the state is committed to its strategic autonomy and the choice it will make may not coincide with the opinion of other countries.

"We won't necessarily agree on everything, but I believe that by doing so, and if there is a desire to find common ground, it will happen. <...> Will I make a choice that sometimes may not coincide with your opinion, with his opinion or with the opinion of someone else? Yes, this can happen," he said during the Munich conference, answering a question about oil purchases from Russia after the conclusion of a trade agreement with the United States.

He also stated that the energy market is quite complex today, and companies in both India and Europe will make decisions that meet their interests.

Since February 7, the United States has lifted previously imposed duties of 25% on imports of goods from India, as the country allegedly refused to purchase Russian oil. At the same time, the Hindu Business Line newspaper reported that India's rapid abandonment of Russian oil is extremely unlikely. According to the newspaper, there are currently no official instructions from the Indian government to stop buying oil from Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also pointed out on February 4 that Russia understands that India has other suppliers of petroleum products. He clarified that India has always bought oil from other countries, so the Kremlin does not see any innovation in this situation.
