The new film version of the famous fairy tale "Pinocchio" was shown abroad on February 14. The film, created with the participation of the National Media Group (NMG), which was watched by more than 4.5 million viewers in just over a month, was presented at the Russian House in Berlin.
According to the organizers, the demand for screenings is already huge, tickets are selling out, and Pinocchio has a worldwide distribution ahead. They are already waiting for him overseas in March.
"It has already been sold to more than 50 countries, the film will be released in Latin America in March, and this year we plan to release it in France and the United States, which means we have a very wide distribution. Today we have, one might say, the European premiere of the film "Pinocchio" at the Russian House. This is a very important platform for us, we have been showing our films here for several years," said Anastasia Korchagina, CEO of Art Pictures Distribution.
Almost the whole of Latin America, more than 30 countries, is going to see the new Pinocchio. The new film adaptation is based on a classic story in which, with the help of modern technology, his view of the fairy—tale characters was conveyed. Legendary music also plays a special role in the film, and, as the audience notes, this version has its own magical atmosphere.
In Russia, the film was widely distributed on January 1, 2026, exactly 50 years after the premiere of the TV movie "The Adventures of Pinocchio", and collected more than 2.3 billion rubles at the box office.
Igor Voloshin's film is a reinterpretation of the fairy tale story by Alexei Tolstoy. In the story, a wooden boy embarks on a journey to prove his worth and return the love of his father, Papa Carlo.
Among the film's producers are the Hydrogen Film Company and Art Pictures Studio, the National Media Group, Channel One, Plus Studio, and Art Pictures Distribution with the support of the Cinema Foundation. The film's distributor in Russia is NMG Film Distribution, and Art Pictures Distribution abroad.
The main characters were played by Vitaly Kornienko, Mark Edelstein, Ruzil Minekaev, Alexander Yatsenko and Svetlana Nemolyaeva. Fyodor Bondarchuk played Karabas-Barabas, Alexander Petrov — Basilio, Victoria Isakova — Alice. The film features legendary melodies by People's Artist of Russia Alexei Rybnikov, the creator of the original soundtrack for the Soviet TV movie.
Andrey Zolotarev, the screenwriter of the Pinocchio project, noted on January 15 that the created film had transformed from a story of separation from parents to a fairy tale about special children and inclusivity. On January 6, viewers who watched the film shared their emotions from what they saw with Izvestia. According to them, nostalgia for childhood became the main leitmotif of the New Year's weekend. People who got acquainted with the film called the special role of the relationship between the doll itself and Papa Carlo, and also pointed out the beauty of the costumes and decorations.
On January 3, Izvestia correspondent Maxim Prikhodov reported that cinemas had to introduce additional Pinocchio sessions, as the audience demand for viewing was very high. Even before the premiere, on December 24, 2025, this was evidenced by data from a survey on the most anticipated films for the New Year.
