The jury unfairly assessed the performance of Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik at the Olympic Games in Milan. This was stated on February 14 by Olympic speed skating champion, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova in an interview with Izvestia.

"It was amazing when Peter had almost all the elements reviewed <...> and they were surprised why athletes who skated fell off jumps, they were also given yellow squares, or even jumps were almost counted, but there was something they didn't like about our athlete."," she said.

Zhurova stressed that similar situations had already happened to Russian athletes at previous Olympics, adding that figure skaters from Russia are traditionally subjected to stricter requirements: any mistake is punished more severely than competitors.

In addition, the athlete recalled the difficulties Humennik had before the short program, which, according to her, "rattled the nerves" of the figure skater by banning the chosen composition from the film "The Perfumer".

At the same time, Zhurova noted the warm support of the athlete from the audience from the stands. According to her, they loudly applauded and chanted "well done", which, as the skater himself later admitted, helped him on the ice.

On February 13, at the Olympic Games in Italy, Humennik performed a clean free skate and scored 184.49 points. He performed at number 13. The athlete managed to perform flip, lutz, Rittberger and double Salchow — in a cascade with a triple toe loop and in combination with two double axels. According to the results of the competition, Humennik took the sixth place.

Later, Alexander Enbert, the silver medalist of the 2018 Olympic Games in the team tournament, praised Humennik's performance in the free skate at the Olympics, noting that he performed his program perfectly and did his best. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that Humennik could have been among the top three if the judges had a different attitude.
